Shaykh Ibn al-ʿUthaymīn (رحمه الله) said:[1]

There is no harm for the fasting person to apply kohl, or to put drops into his eyes, likewise to put drops into his ears, even if he was to find its taste in his throat. This does not break his fast because it is not eating or drinking and nor what is similar conceptually to eating and drinking.[2]

The evidence has only come regarding eating and drinking. Whatever does not come under the meaning of [eating and drinking], cannot be put alongside them. What we have mentioned is the chosen view of Shaykh al-Islām Ibn Taymiyyah (رحمه الله), and it is correct.

As for a [person] putting drops in his nose which then enter his interior [beyond the throat], then he has broken his fast, if he did that with intent, due to the statement of the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم): “Be emphatic in taking water up the nose [during ablution] unless you are fasting.”[3]
